A man's pet squirrel went nuts and scared off a burglar who was robbing his home.
Adam Pearl from Meridian in Idaho only realized something was amiss when he came home and saw that things were out of place, missing and doors that would normally be closed, were wide open.
He said he knew for sure that someone had been in his house when he saw the area around his gun safe had scratches on it.
'I started looking at it and saw the scratches that are around the locking area and at that point I knew somebody was definitely in here messing around,' explained Adam to KIVI.
Adam Peal, from Idaho, came home to his cheerful pet squirrel Joey but it seemed as though someone had been in the house beforehand
Joey the squirrel likes to greet anyone who comes into the home whether they should or shouldn't be there
The role Joey his pet squirrel played only became apparent after he called police to report the burglary and officer Ashley Turner went to investigate.
'During her investigations Joey had run in the bedroom just screwing around like he always does between her legs and kind of startled her,' explained Adam.
'She says "whoa, what was that", and I said "ahhh don't worry about that, that's just Joey, my pet squirrel ya know."'
Officer Turner then asked Adam if Joey would bite. 'I said, "well, he usually doesn't bite but you never know cause he is a squirrel."'
Adam noticed there were some open doors in his home that he normally keeps closed
Scratched were found along the gun safe that Adam keeps in his back bedroom
When a police officer came round they also got to meet Joey who was feasting on some nuts
Hours later the officer returned to Adam's house with some of his stolen belongings.
While she had been questioning a suspect about the burglary, she had noticed that he had scratches on his hands and asked if he got them from a squirrel.
The suspect said yes and that the 'damn thing kept attacking me and wouldn't stop until I left!'
Adam told KIVI: 'Nobody can believe it because who can say they have a squirrel that guards their house, which is crazy.
'You can't ask for much more than that. He is a pain in the butt, but he is great.'
