UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WJZ)—The acquittal of Bowie State University student who stabbed her roommate in the neck is drawing major controversy and mixed opinions. Now the 911 call made by the defendant that night has been released.

Rochelle Ritchie has more on that call.

The call lasted about 90 seconds, and it may be disturbing for some of our viewers.

For the first time, the 911 call made on the night 19-year-old Alexis Simpson stabbed her roommate, 18-year-old Dominique Frazier, is heard.

911 Dispatcher: “Prince George’s county 911. What’s the location of your emergency?

Simpson: “Bowie State! Bowie State University.”

911 Dispatcher: “Hello.”

Simpson: “Bowie State!”

Simpson would later stand trial for first-degree murder.

Simpson: “Bowie State University. Can you talk to them? Please can you talk them? I’m sorry. Why would ya’ll jump me. Why would ya’ll do that!”

The frantic call supports Simpson’s claim of self-defense.

In court she testified she and Frazier had gotten into a physical fight before the stabbing after she turned off Frazier’s music.  She told the court she ran to her room to grab a knife and try to leave. That’s when she says she was jumped by Frazier and her friends.

Simpson: “Why did ya’ll have to jump me? Oh my God, why would ya’ll jump me!

Simpson stabbed Frazier in the neck. She would die of her injuries. A death witnessed in front of fellow students.

911 Caller: “She got stabbed. She got stabbed in the throat.”

911 Caller:”She’s dying. She’s dead.”

The jury never heard this 911 call but would still drop all charges against Simpson ranging from first-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter.

“She is tremendously remorseful for this incident,” said Christopher Griffiths, defense attorney.

The state argued Simpson initiated the fight and her actions were per-meditated.

“We are very disappointed tonight. We presented what we thought was very clear and strong evidence,” said Angela Alsobrooks, state attorney.

The knife that was used during the stabbing was never found. The college says that it does have a no weapons allowed policy.

Simpson says she plans to continue her college education at another school.
