British No 3 Naomi Broady failed in her bid to qualify for the Miami Open after losing to New Zealander Marina Erakovic.

Despite serving six aces to her opponent's two, the 27-year-old lost the first set 7-5 on Monday.

Erakovic improved her service game in the second set to take that 6-4 and reach the first-round proper.

New Zealand No 1 Marina Erakovic, who has struggled to find her form so far this year, secured victory in one hour 46 minutes

The 29-year-old will next face Canada's Francoise Abanda or Nao Hibino of Japan and needs to win two more matches to make the main draw.

The Kiwi hasn't progressed beyond the first round at a tour level tournament this year, and is looking to boost her current ranking of 107 to earn direct entry to the main draw at the French Open in May.
