Best Wedding Scenes: Tying the Knot in Royal Style

The Royal Wedding (as if we need to tell you) unfolds this Friday, April 29, but you don't have to wait that long to indulge in your love of all things nuptial. You're cordially invited to some of cinema's most lavish, most formal wedding ceremonies. Our brides and grooms include princes and princesses, a baron, a nun and even an ogre. We've got French, Austrian and African royalty, not to mention Russian Orthodox and Greek Orthodox rites. We've even included a few rather unorthodox ceremonies that remind us that while over-the-top weddings are fabulous, all you need is love.

We couldn't find clips of all our favorite wedding scenes, alas, but please RSVP with your own favorites we may have overlooked.

'Cinderella' (1950)
The quintessential fairy tale ending as our unsung heroine lands her prince to live, of course, happily ever after.

'Shrek' (2001)
Aka, 'My Big Fat Green Wedding' as Shrek declares his love for Princess Fiona at the altar where she's supposed to be marrying Lord Farquaad. True love, fortunately, prevails.

'Coming to America' (1988)
Pretending to be a commoner, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) scours New York City to find his perfect bride. Fortunately, she says yes.

'Marie Antoinette' (2006)
The very rococo wedding of Austrian Marie Antoinette (Kristen Dunst) to Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman) starts at 4:15 in this clip. Although she's entering a life of luxury she's first stripped of all her own clothes and even her pet pug. Is that a way to treat a bride?

'Excalibur' (1981)
King Arthur (Nigel Terry) is blinding in his bling as he and all his knights wear their shiniest armor for his marriage to Guinevere (Cherie Lunghi), about a minute into this clip.
