This is the first look at the secluded woodland area where the bodies of two teenage girls were found murdered in Indiana.

Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, went missing on Monday afternoon after going for a hike near the Monon High Bridge along the Delphi Historic Trails.

Police were no longer posted at access points to the trail on Thursday after they spent Tuesday and Wednesday gathering evidence at the scene but police tape remained at some areas along the creek bank.

Authorities appealed for the public's help late on Wednesday to identify a man they were seeking in connection with the double homicide - and who was seen on the same bridge on the day they vanished.

Delphi Historic Trails is part of the National Recreation Trails network and information about it is listed on the City of Delphi website as a local point of interest.

Sgt. Kim Riley of Indiana State Police tweeted on Thursday that were no updates in the investigation. They have received hundreds of tips from the local community.

German and Williams were dropped off around lunchtime near Monon High Bridge by German's sister to do some hiking on what was a public winter holiday from school.

The two friends were active on social media on their cell phones before they disappeared. German posted final Snapchat images of Williams at Monon High Bridge close to where they started hiking around 2:07pm.

The girls were reported missing by their families several hours later when they did not return.

Their bodies were found at 12:15pm on Tuesday about three-quarters of a mile upstream from the abandoned railroad bridge, police said. Their cause of death and nature of injuries were not released due to the ongoing investigation.

A volunteer searching for the girls found their bodies on private property about 50-60 feet from the water, police said.

The only lead they have made public is the picture of the man who is wearing either a hat or a hood as he walks across the bridge.

Police shared images of the individual with his head lowered and hands in his pockets along the stretch of exposed rickety, wooden bridge, built in 1891, which is around 60 feet over the creek.

Police did not describe him as a suspect and have not said from where they obtained the image. Authorities would not say whether they recovered the victims' phones at the scene.

Police released an update which read: 'We are asking help from the public to help identify him so he can be contacted regarding what he might have seen.'

Police also asked that anyone parked at High Bridge Trail Head on February 13 between the hours of 1pm and 5pm contact authorities.

'If you can identify the subject or were parked in the lot, please contact the Carroll County Sheriff's Department or the Delphi Police Department at 765-564-2345 or the Indiana State Police at 765-567-2125. You can remain anonymous if you request,' a police statement read.
