Samsung Electronics, the market leader in the foldable smartphone segment, has officially taken the next evolutionary leap with the announcement of the Galaxy Z TriFold. Moving beyond the single-fold “book style” of the Galaxy Z Fold series and the “clamshell” design of the Galaxy Z Flip series, this device folds twice to reveal a massive, immersive 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED display.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be priced around $2,500 for the base model. The initial rollout is slated for December 12, 2025, starting in South Korea, with launches in other key markets like the U.S. and China to follow in the first quarter of 2026.

Samsung Unveils a New Form Factor

As reported by MacRumors, the Galaxy Z TriFold is a marvel of engineering, featuring a unique, inward-folding design that utilizes two hinges to protect the main screen. When folded, it is surprisingly thin, measuring as little as 3.9 mm at its thinnest point. 

The device is not merely a phone; it aims to serve as a complete mobile workstation, leveraging the custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy and standalone Samsung DeX support to run multiple applications side-by-side with desktop-like fluidity.

The device also addresses a common complaint in the foldable sector by including the largest battery Samsung has ever integrated into a foldable phone, rated at around 5,600mAh.

For long-term peace of mind, Samsung has reportedly subjected the main display to a rigorous 200,000-cycle multi-folding test, aiming to address the durability concerns that have historically plagued the initial generations of folding screens

The Evolution of User Reception

Samsung pioneered the modern foldable market, but its journey has been marked by both enthusiastic adoption and significant technical challenges. Earlier generations of the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices were initially met with concerns regarding durability, particularly the visible crease in the main screen and the long-term resilience of the hinge mechanism.

Samsung’s Executive Vice President Alex Lim noted that the Galaxy Z TriFold is intended to act as a catalyst for explosive growth in the segment, suggesting it is a technological showcase rather than a high-volume product initially.

The new multi-fold design is explicitly aimed at power users and professionals who require maximal screen real estate for advanced multitasking.
