Claude AI Unlocks Forgotten Wallet Holding $400K BTC

On May 13, an X (formerly known as Twitter) user under the name of cprkrn announced that he had recovered access to a forgotten Bitcoin wallet holding 5 Bitcoin (BTC). As per the current value, the total worth of these 5 BTC is approximately $400,000.
According to him, he was able to do this by feeding old college computer files into Anthropic Claude AI. The origin of this wallet dates back to around 2015, when he bought Bitcoin for around $250 each.
How a User Recovered Access to a Bitcoin Wallet by Using Claude AI
While cprkrn was in college, he changed his Bitcoin wallet password abruptly while he was consuming drugs. After changing the password of the wallet, he forgot the new password. In order to recover the password, he tried brute-forcing trillions of password guesses. He also paid for professional recovery services for many years, but he had no luck.
In 2023, he also shared a post regarding the lost wallet. After trying everything, he uploaded a large amount of data from his old computers and created backups in the Claude AI system. In response, the Claude AI worked like a smart digital detective. The AI model has analysed the entire backup of files and identified an older wallet file that linked to the day when he changed his password.
After this, it has located an original mnemonic phrase, which is also called a seed phrase, and helped debug issues with recovery tools such as btcrecover. This process allowed him to access the earlier version of the wallet and sweep the funds out of it.
In the thread, he shared the humorous old password, which was lol420fuckthePOLICE!*:). On-chain data is also confirming that the funds were recently moved from this wallet.
This story is not just about traditional password cracking; instead, Claude AI displayed forensic analysis skill by finding the correct old file among terabytes of disorganised data that a human would likely have missed.
The claim shows how artificial intelligence is rapidly integrating into the cryptocurrency sector in many different ways. In wallet recovery, AI tools have shown incredible skill by analysing large hard drives.
Claude AI has also identified wallet file formats and suggested likely passwords or seed phrases based on patterns. This AI model also comes with services like Wallet Recovery AI. This AI model also provides custom scripts, such as AI-based brute-force for seed phrases.
According to a study, AI models, including LSTM networks, can guess missing seed words faster when users have partial phrases.
At the same time, AI technologies are being used to detect vulnerabilities present in the blockchain-based infrastructure in order to improve security, analyse blockchain data, and assist in recovering lost assets. According to the report, around 3 to 4 million Bitcoins are considered to be lost forever. AI tools could help in recovering some of these valuable portions of funds through better data archaeology.
On one side, AI is providing extra help to resolve major issues and address major problems present in the AI sector; on the other hand, AI is also creating a major threat to the digital asset sector. These AI tools are working on specific data, and in situations like data failure, they can provide wrong information to the user, which may lead to permanent loss of funds.
