Boise Woman Starts “Purses with a Purpose” Fundraiser to Donate Purses

Launee Wolverton, a realtor at Silvercreek Realty Group[HB2], started the ‘Purses with a Purpose’ fundraiser in 2019 to support homeless and battered women by donating purses filled with products for everyday hygiene.

She started with Facebook posts, asking women to donate gently used products like purses, along with soaps, shampoo, feminine products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, scarves, etc. Donations came pouring in, she and her team now pack the purses and donate them to about ten shelters in the city, she receives at least one donation every day.

Apart from individuals, some of the valley’s charitable groups also donate; the Boise Diaper Bank donated many pallets of feminine products to the fundraiser.

Wolverton said, “You know, honestly, I can’t say it enough; it blesses me to bless other women.” She added, “I grew up poor, so I know what it’s like to not have those things, and I’m so grateful I can do it.”

The shelters weren’t accepting donations for a few months during the pandemic, but Wolverton started again in May and delivered 128 purses at shelters this month, she also has women helping her with making face masks that can be put in the handbags.

Wolverton is enthusiastic about her mission; she invites people on her Facebook page to donate a purse or items to be put in purses for the fundraiser.
